Marion "Jack" Hottman, 89, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010. He was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Detroit. He is the father of classmate Frankie Hottman. Graveside service will be 2 PM Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at the Abilene Cemetery. Danner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sharon Louise Wilson Blue, was born October 26, 1946 in Salina, Kansas the daughter of B.J. Wilson and Delores Jean Franklin Wilson and departed this life June 11, 2010 in Hammond, Louisiana having attained the age of 63 years. She was a native of Salina and grew up in Abilene, where she graduated from Abilene High School. Sharon retired from GE after 171/2 years of dedicated service and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She leaves behind her daughter, Alicia Porter, two sons, Garry Porter and wife Christine, Scott Porter, and wife Dori, along with six grandchildren, Haley, Hunter, Abby, Bryson, Victoria and Jason all of Louisiana. Sharon also survived by her father, BJ Wilson and his wife Pauline of Abilene; three brothers, Rick Wilson and wife Laura of Abilene, Daniel Wilson of Nevada, David Wilson of Norfolk, Virginia, as will as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Delores Jean Franklin Wilson. The family would like to say a special thanks to Vital Hospice of Hammond. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home of Hammond, and Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, Solomon, Kansas.

Rylan Fick 63, Abilene, Kansas, suffered a massive stroke and died Sunday November 22, 2009 at the Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. He was born November 15, 1946 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Harold and Lavina (Riffel) Fick. He grew to manhood south of Abilene, attended the Rural Center Grade School, and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1964.
On December 3, 1966 he was united in marriage with Carol Foust in Abilene, Kansas. He attended Barber School in Wichita, Kansas, and with Dennis Kerbs owned and operated the Town & Country Barber Shop in Abilene for 34 years. He served in the Kansas National Guard for six years. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, rural Abilene, a member of the Abilene Elks Lodge where he served as a trustee, was active in Ducks Unlimited for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Carol of the home, one son, Justin Fick and wife Elizabeth, Abilene, a sister Janet Swarts and husband Roger, Topeka, Kansas, three grandchildren, Amanda, James and Travis Fick and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.

We have set a meeting for the Class of 1964 reunion planning for Sunday, February 22nd at 4:00 p.m. at my house (516 Tom Smith Circle - Abilene). We are also going to send some postcards to those in the Abilene-Salina area to see if we can get some help. Thanks, Carol

Dean Felbush of Abilene passed away on Feb. 5th, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth. He was the father of Nina Felbush (S). Nina and her husband Gary reside at Macksville, KS. The funeral will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church of Rural Abilene on Monday, Feb. 9 at 1:30PM. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday between 7 and 8 PM.

Donna M. Gantenbein 81, former Abilene, KS resident died Sunday January 4, 2009 in Ashdown, AR. She was born March 29, 1927 in Manhattan, KS. She moved to Abilene, KS as a child, attended the local schools and graduated from Abilene High School. She was a member of the Methodist Church, and had worked for the Abilene Public Library. Surviving are on daughter, Pam (Stone) Milleson, Ashdown, AR, two step sons, Larry Gantenbein, Highlands, NC, and Ivan Gantenbein, Titusville, FL, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and other relatives.

Melvin “Mel” Kabler, husband of D. Christine (DeWeese) passed away on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at his home in Strong City, KS. Services were held Dec. 21 in Cottonwood Falls, KS.

Reported by Janice Fiedler: I just talked to Marilyn (Kickhaefer) M. I don't know how many classmates are aware that Marilyn and Ron lost their house and vehicles in the Chapman tornado. They are renting a house in Abilene now and will close on a house in Abilene on September 9. After they get settled, they will get a computer hooked up with e-mail. I will let you know her e-mail address after I visit her in October.

Billie Orwig, 81, of Hutchinson, died Monday, May 19, 2008 at Clare Bridge in Wichita.
Mrs. Orwig was born Jan. 2, 1927 in Arwood, Okla. She graduated from Wewoka High School, Okla. She married Thomas W. Orwig in Wewoka, Okla., on April 19, 1946. They lived in Manhattan from 1972 to 1974, moving then to Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1995.
Mrs. Orwig was a homemaker, and also worked as school secretary at Abilene High School. She was a member of the First Congregation Church, Beta Sigma Phi, the Tole Painting Society and Study Club.
Survivors include son Peter Orwig, of Overland Park; daughters, Kathey Gibbs of Augusta, and Beth Schroder of Martinez, Ga.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Besides her husband, Mrs. Orwig was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 23 at the First Congregational Church in Hutchinson. Pastor Matt Stafford will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Burial Park. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the Elliot Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas or to First Congregational Church. Dan Smith 60, Solomon, KS died Monday June 4, 2007 at his home. He was born October 29, 1946 at Abilene, KS the son of Ray H. and Nellie (Young) Smith. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth, attended the Abilene Schools and was united in marriage with Kathleen Clements. All his life was spent in the Abilene and Solomon area. He was formerly employed by the Dickinson County Highway Department, and a member of the Baptist Church.
